BRIGHTON  house

As children we delight in exploring our natural surroundings. We love the thrill of new discoveries. When designing the Bell House I wanted to introduce this sense of playfullness and intrigue.

When entering from the street, bold silhouettes are partially obscured by leafy gum trees. Upon closer inspection, natural light accents the front door. Once inside you are encouraged to explore further, as features presents new paths. Finally once upstairs you are finally able to overlook the journey you have just made.

The Dongwha Administration office considers my clients core values of 'respect', 'honesty' and 'support.'

The overstated roof on the office symbolises a tree canopy. offering protection from the harsh Australian climate. The large verandah provides a refuge from the elements and is a welcoming space for everyone to come together under it's shelter.

To reflect the idea of mutual respect and cohesion, the Administration building has not been placed on top of the hill looking down on everything else. Instead, it has been designed to be friendly and approachable.

CARDIGAN  house

When visiting a rural property, it is often common place to enter via the back door. When designing the Cardigan House
I placed the front door at the rear of the house to pay hommage to the laid back nature of country living.

The Cardigan house employs a cloister to protect the visitors from the elements. The cloister also forms a protective courtyard for the occupants, providing a play area and entertaining space.

There ain’t no party like a Lagos party.

Or so they say. This weekend, Dazed flew out to Lagos, Nigeria for the third annual MTV Africa Music.

Awards and spent a few days and some late nights meeting rap, R&B and kuduro superstars from across Africa: names like Banky W, Fally Ipupa, Daddy Owen, Cabo Snoop and Radio & Weasel, from Angola to Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo and beyond, all huge stars in their own countries, selling truckloads of records despite rampant piracy and a rickety music industry. These guys are kind of the Jay Zs and Snoops of Africa, basically.
